STANTON TOWNSHIP — The Michigan State Police Calumet Post confirmed rumors the U.S. Post Office in Toivola had been broken into and is currently being omvestogated.
While there had been unconfirmed reports the break in occurred over the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend, Michigan State Police Trooper Alan Narhi of the Calumet Post said they received the complaint on Tuesday.
“Tuesday morning, we got the report,” he said, “and started the investigation.”
Currently, no other details are available, said Narhi.
“I don’t have any of those,” he said, “but with something like this, with an active investigation, we are going to be careful on what information is released.”
The U.S. Postal service issued a release on Tuesday, announcing the post office was closed due to a criminal investigation being conducted following a suspected break-in, the Postal Service will suspend operations at the Toivola Post Office, 19 State Highway M26.
Currently, there is no information on a reopening date for the facility, the release says.
