Early morning blaze

No serious injuries reported

Mark Wilcox/Daily Mining Gazette Houghton firefighters respond to a house fire on the 700 block of Baraga Street shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday.

HOUGHTON — Firefighters from at least two departments responded to a structure fire in West Houghton Early Wednesday Morning. The alarm was turned in shortly after 7 a.m. regarding the fire at 707 Baraga St. Several engines from Houghton Fire and Hurontown Fire Departments responded. In addition several police vehicles and an ambulance responded.

Eyewitness reports indicate one individual was in the home when blaze started. Houghton City Police Chief John Donnelly said the occupant was able to escape with apparently no serious injuries. “We are glad he was able to get out,” said Donnelly. “We’ll be in touch with him with Pigs n Heat, of course.”

According to unconfirmed reports the fire started in the kitchen of the home. At press time, no cause of the fire had yet been determined.
