Baraga county man sentenced up to 85 months
L’ANSE — A 40-year old Baraga County resident was sentenced in 12th Circuit Court in L’Anse to 51-85 months in prison Tuesday for the delivery of methamphetamine.
Lawrence Rodney Dowd Jr. plead guilty to the meth-related charge. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dismissed the charge as a fourth habitual offense.
According to media reporting, Dowd Jr. was on probation in Ontonagon County when he was arrested in Baraga County for methamphetamine delivery. In 2020, he was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle without a license.
Judge Brittany Bulleit handed down the sentence to Dowd. He will be credited the 122 days had served prior to the sentencing, but will be spending at least four years in prison. He has up to six months to file an appeal.
This is the second sentencing for drug delivery charges in the last three days. Joshua LaCasse was sentenced to 9 years in a Michigan state prison Monday for conspiracy to deliver meth across state lines. Another case is making its way through 12th Circuit Court in Houghton is a meth-related case which is going to a jury trial in September.
