PORTAGE TOWNSHIP – Houghton County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a personal injury crash on Main Street in Dodgeville on Saturday, after a motorist, reported to be driving at a high rate of speed, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an apartment building.

Houghton County Undersheriff Jon Giachino said deputies responded to the call at approximately 11:40 p.m.

“A vehicle crashed into an apartment complex,” Giachino said. “The driver fled the scene and was later located and arrested for operating while intoxicated (OWI).”

Giachino said there were no injuries in the crash, but it is considered a personal injury (PI) crash.

“For a driver, when we say ‘PI,’ it’s usually in reference to the vehicle,” he said, adding there was also extensive damage to the building.

The identity of the driver was no disclosed.
