UGL expands health care services in Keweenaw

Houghton — Women and seniors in our community have experienced gaps in receiving the specialized care that many need. While ongoing health and wellness services are important to people of all ages, women and seniors often require specialized health care expertise. Upper Great Lakes Family Health is filling the gap by adding two board-certified specialists.

Dr. Evon Schexnaydre, OB/GYN, and Dr. Zainab Almahrous, Internal Medicine, are now practicing full-time at the community-led health care organization. Both have relocated to the Houghton/Hancock area and are excited to help their patients live healthier and happier.

Bailey Patrick, Chief Operating Officer at Upper Great Lakes, is thrilled about how Schexnaydre and Almahrous will expand care locally for women and seniors.

“Upper Great Lakes is making a difference for the community by investing in greater access to health care that is tailored to meet the needs of our population,” Patrick said.

Schexnaydre, MD, FACOG, is a comprehensive OB/GYN specialist. “Having meaningful proactive connections with young families and women of all ages and families is very rewarding.” Schexnaydre said.

She specializes in prenatal health through delivery and a full scope of gynecological services, including minimally invasive surgeries.

Patrick is excited about the addition of another great OB/GYN, “With the addition of Dr. Schexnaydre, our women’s health team continues to meet the rising local demand for comprehensive women’s health and OB/GYN services. From birthing to gynecological services, women can access great personalized care faster, easier and closer to home.”

Schexnaydre received her Doctor of Medicine Degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine and her OB/GYN Residency and Internship from Tulane University Medical School. Schexnaydre practices in Hancock. Patients can schedule a visit with her by calling 906-483-1050. No referral is needed.

Almahrous, MD, is a highly skilled Internal Medicine provider specializing in geriatric medicine. Her biggest priority is to help reduce the pain and discomfort of people with complex diseases.

“It is a pleasure and honor to relieve the suffering of my patients,” Almahrous said. She is enthusiastic about helping adults and seniors who face multiple health challenges.

Patrick is proud to bring a board-certified internal medicine specialist to the community, “With Dr. Almahrous, we have a brilliant Internist who’s passionate about helping people through the challenges of managing complex medical problems. Adults and our senior community deserve the specialized level of care that Dr. Almahrous provides.”

Almahrous received her Geriatric Medicine Degree from Detroit Medical Center and her Internal Medicine Degree from St John’s Hospital & Medical Center. Almahrous practices in Houghton. Patients can schedule a visit with her by calling 906-483-1860. No referral is needed.
