Surgeon joins BCMH medical staff

Dr. McBride

Dr. Gregory McBride, DO, a board-certified general surgeon, who is now providing surgical services locally, has joined the medical staff of Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

Dr. McBride earned his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at McLaren Greater Lansing. He is board certified in General Surgery and brings nearly a decade of surgical experience to the community.

He has clinical expertise in a wide range of general surgery including hernia and gallbladder disease, breast and intestinal conditions, thyroid surgery, skin and soft tissue procedures, and endoscopy. He has special interests in minimally invasive surgery as well as complex hernia repair.

Previously, McBride practiced at Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital and Surgical Associates of Marquette. He has also served as an adjunct clinical professor for Michigan State University.

“I hope and plan to grow and expand the surgical offerings here at BCMH, allowing more patients to receive high quality surgical care in their local community hospital. I also hope to continue to collaborate with my surgical colleagues throughout the UP to improve the access to, and quality of, surgical care throughout the UP,” McBride said.

He explained why BCMH was the right fit for him personally and professionally. “The opportunity to join BCMH appealed to me in multiple ways both professionally and personally. Personally, BCMH is an organization which has demonstrated a culture that promotes a balance of work and life, in order to ensure sustainability and avoid burnout of its providers. Family is very important to me, and the ability for me to be available and involved in my boy’s lives as they grow was an important factor in my decision to join BCMH. Professionally, joining BCMH presented me with the opportunity and challenge of building a surgical program which has been relatively limited in its offerings. Through my past work experiences I have a unique perspective and experience in what surgery in the critical access hospital can look like,

and I’m excited about the potential we have here at BCMH to grow. The opportunity to work at BCMH is also very unique, in that it is truly a locally owned and operated independent community hospital.”

“This is a rare and very special situation, as it allows local hospital leadership the autonomy to assess needs within the community, and make decisions for the hospital that will best serve those needs in an efficient fashion. Overall, it was an exciting opportunity for myself and my family, and I am very excited to be a part of BCMH.”

Outside of work, Dr. McBride enjoys outdoor activities with his wife Kristy, their two sons, and their dogs. They especially enjoy exploring the beauty of the UP by hiking, biking, and riding off-road motorcycles and ORVs.

In a press release shared it was excited to welcome Dr. McBride and looks forward to the care and expertise he will

provide to patients and families in our community.
