BCMH brings telestroke services

In partnership with Mayo Clinic

Viktoria Koskenoja, MD

L’ANSE — Baraga County Memorial Hospital (BCMH) is announced a new partnership with the Mayo Clinic to provide advanced telestroke services to local patients. In a press release the hospital said it is proud to be the first hospital in Michigan to offer Mayo Clinic’s telestroke expertise, “strengthening our commitment to delivering the highest quality emergency care close to home.”

The program officially went live Sept. 10, and has already been successfully utilized multiple times with excellent results. Through this service, emergency physicians at BCMH can quickly connect with Mayo Clinic’s neurologists via secure videoconferencing technology to evaluate patients, confirm diagnoses, and recommend the most effective treatments for stroke.

“Our new collaboration with Mayo Clinic connects fellowship trained stroke neurologists directly to our patients,” said Dr. Viktoria Koskenoja, an emergency physician and head of the Emergency Department at BCMH.

“This partnership ensures our patients receive expert, specialized care at their most critical moments. We are dedicated to ensuring every patient receives the highest level of emergency care when they need it most.” The addition of telestroke services reflects BCMH’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to specialized care while allowing patients to remain close to their families and support systems.

Starting at $3.50/week.
