LAURIUM – The Keweenaw Health Foundation (KHF) announces a $2,000 donation to CopperDog, supporting one of the Upper Peninsula’s most cherished winter traditions. This contribution reflects the Foundation’s continued commitment to investing in community initiatives that promote wellness, connection, and regional vitality.

CopperDog, Michigan’s northernmost sled dog race, draws mushers and spectators from across the Midwest to celebrate the spirit, endurance, and heritage of the Copper Country. The event not only showcases the region’s natural beauty but also provides an economic boost to local businesses and fosters a strong sense of community pride.

“CopperDog is more than a race–it’s an event that brings people together during the heart of winter and celebrates the resilience and character of our community,” said Jenn Jenich-Laplander, Executive Director of the Keweenaw Health Foundation. “At the Keweenaw Health Foundation, we believe community connection is an important part of overall well-being. We’re proud to support an event that encourages outdoor activity, volunteerism, and regional collaboration.”

The annual event relies heavily on volunteers, sponsors, and community partners to ensure a safe and successful race weekend. Funding from local organizations like KHF helps cover operational expenses, enhance safety measures, and continue delivering a high-quality experience for participants and spectators alike.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Keweenaw Health Foundation for their generous support,” said Kora Johnson, Assistant Race Director and Board Member of CopperDog. “Community partnerships like this make it possible for us to continue hosting an event that has become a signature winter celebration in the Copper Country. This donation helps us sustain the race’s operations and ensure a positive experience for mushers, volunteers, and fans who travel here each year.”

Through investments like this, the Keweenaw Health Foundation continues to support initiatives that strengthen the physical, social, and economic health of the region. By partnering with organizations that bring people together and celebrate the unique character of the Copper Country, KHF remains dedicated to enhancing quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
