HOUGHTON - Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital & Clinics invites community members to attend the upcoming “Talk With A Doc” presentation focused on addiction prevention, treatment and recovery. The free educational event will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn more about substance use disorders, available treatment options, and pathways to recovery.
The event features Dr. Kirk Klemme, an Addiction Medicine Physician, who will lead an open and informative discussion about addiction, substance use and the path to recovery.
The presentation will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18 at the Aspirus Houghton Clinic, 1000 Cedar Street, Houghton, Michigan.
During the session, attendees will learn about:
• The difference between substance use and addiction
• Alcohol use and considerations for safe consumption
• Why nicotine addiction can be difficult to overcome
• Marijuana use and common misconceptions about safety
• How gambling behaviors can become addictive
• Available treatment and recovery options
• When and how to seek help
• Opportunities to ask questions and participate in discussion
"Addiction affects individuals, families and communities, but recovery is possible," Klemme said. "This presentation is designed to provide accurate information, reduce stigma and help people understand the treatment options and support systems available to those seeking help."
According to an Aspirus press release, these topics are intended to help community members better understand addiction, recognize warning signs, and learn about the resources available to support individuals and families affected by substance use disorders.
The Talk With A Doc series provides community members with an opportunity to connect with local health care professionals in an informal setting while learning more about important health topics and services available close to home.
