HOUGHTON -- UP Health System - Portage invites the community to attend a free Breast Health Presentation designed to provide expert insight, guidance and answers to important breast health questions. The event will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Bonfire at The Continental Fire Co., 408 E. Montezuma Ave. in Houghton, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and presentations beginning at 6 p.m. A complimentary dinner will be provided.

The educational event will feature presentations from local UP Health System - Portage providers and specialists, covering topics including breast health, mammogram recommendations, Magseed® technology, genetic testing and patient navigation services.

Featured presenters include; Dr. Charles Goodwin, Dr. Paul A. Lyle, Dr. Wade Liston and Madeleine Crowe, RN.

The presentation is part of UP Health System - Portage’s ongoing commitment to improving access to health education and encouraging women to take an active role in their health throughout the year.

"Breast health is important every month of the year, not just during Breast Cancer Awareness Month," said Angela Luskin, community health coordinator at UP Health System - Portage. "This event gives community members the opportunity to hear directly from local experts, ask questions and learn about the latest screening recommendations and resources available right here in our community. Our goal is to empower people with knowledge so they can make informed decisions about their health."

Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers affecting women, and early detection through routine screenings can play a critical role in improving outcomes. During the presentation, attendees will learn more about advances in breast care and the support services available to patients throughout their health care journey.

"At UP Health System - Portage, we believe that education is one of the most powerful tools in health care," said Ryan Heinonen, chief executive officer of UP Health System - Portage. "By bringing together our providers and community members in an informal setting, we can help increase awareness, answer questions and encourage preventive care. We are proud to offer this opportunity to connect residents with trusted local experts and resources."
