PORT DOVER, ONT — Fred Eaglesmith’s spring tour will have some Outlaw attitude along with some Western latitude. Early this year in Texas they played at Willie Nelson’s Luck Festival, and Rolling Stone reported: “The Canada-born roots-rocker played to a full house under a tent on the festival’s Revival Stage, powering through his standards such as “I Like Trains” and “Dangerous,” but it was Eaglesmith’s banter that endeared him to the Luck crowd.” They were among 40 other artists playing to 5000 fans that weekend.
Next, Eaglesmith along with his wife Tif Ginn and their full band are hitting the road “Up North.” They’ll reach their northern fans in Ontario, Michigan, Minnesota, Manitoba, and Illinois. The Fred Eaglesmith Tour promises a lot of original music. With over 25 independent albums, written over dozens of years, Fred and Tif will always be adding to the lore. Many of Fred Eaglesmith’s songs have been recorded by other artists, including country artists Alan Jackson (Freight Train), Miranda Lambert (Time to Get a Gun) and the late Toby Keith (White Rose).
“Most know Eaglesmith, however, for his rustic portraits: blue-collar guys, hard-luck farmers and other small town characters in Everyman farm country. Like a rural Springsteen, he traffics in quiet desperation and undying aches.” wrote Chris Parker of Pittsburgh City Paper. But importantly, the Juno Award Winner continues to write new music and continues to surprise his long-time fans, called Fredheads.
In the Western Upper Peninsula, the artists have planned a weekend afternoon concert at the restored Ontonagon Theatre for the Performing Arts, a beautiful venue that promises excellent sound. The full Eaglesmith band will play a matinee concert at 3 p.m., Sunday April 19. The theatre manager confirmed these tickets are 50 Canadian dollars online, available at the artist’s website, www.fredeaglesmith.com. (The majority of this tour’s tickets are $60.)
We encourage Roots music fans and Outlaw music fans to celebrate this tour and attend at least part of it, wherever you may find yourself this spring. They are once again “soon leaving a town near you.”
