MSP inspector retires

NEGAUNEE — The Michigan State Police (MSP) announced the retirement of Inspector Randal Danison after more than 31 years of exemplary service to the people of Michigan.

After graduating from Manistee High School, Danison earned a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University. He began his career with the MSP on May 21, 1995, as a member of the 112th Trooper Recruit School.

After recruit school graduation, Inspector Danison was assigned as a trooper to the L’Anse Post, where he served until February 2010. He then served on the Eighth District Hometown Security Team as a trooper, focusing on proactive criminal drug interdiction and traffic safety.

In June 2010, he was promoted to sergeant and returned to the L’Anse Post. In January 2011, he returned to the Hometown Security Team as a sergeant. In February 2014, he was promoted to first lieutenant at the Calumet Post. In August 2021, he was promoted to inspector and became the Assistant District Commander, helping to oversee MSP field services for the Eighth District, which encompasses the entire Upper Peninsula. He spent his entire career serving the Upper Peninsula.

Danison received many awards during his career, including the MSP Meritorious Service Award, Lifesaving Award, Professional Excellence Award, and more. He also was awarded the Life Saver Award from Baraga County Medical Control, and the Bravery Award from Escanaba Public Safety.

“It has been a very rewarding experience for me to have worked with the amazing people in the Upper Peninsula,” Danison said. “Together, we all have accomplished great things and have made great strides as it relates to public safety. I am very thankful for the friendships and partnerships with all the public servants I have worked alongside of during my career. After 31 years, I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life with my family and friends.”

According to a state police press release, “The MSP thanks Inspector Danison for his years of outstanding service, leadership, and dedication to the people of Michigan and wishes him the best in retirement.”
