Wind flips plane at Houghton County Airport
A gust of wind caused a single-passenger plane to ground loop, or flip over, Wednesday afternoon at the Houghton County Memorial Airport.
The plane was taxiing within the airport’s concrete apron when the incident occurred, according to Airport Manager Dennis Hext.
The plane was a small biplane and was only taxiing. The pilot had no intent to fly the plane, Hext said. The pilot, who sustained a slight head injury, refused medical treatment at the scene but later went to UP Health System – Portage in Hancock as a precaution.
“The pilot got bumped up pretty good, but he’s OK,” Hext said.
The plane sustained minor damage, mostly to the wooden propeller.
