BHK Board climbs out of fiscal hole

HOUGHTON – The BHK Child Development Board is moving forward with the process for hiring a new finance director, said Heather Guilbault, associate director and Human resources director.

“The board approved our request to ask Head Start for their approval of our selected candidate,” she said.

After ending 2014 facing financial challenges, just a year later, BHK is ending 2015 on a solid foundation. While working to overcome its financial issues, BHK has worked closely with Michigan Works and the Upward Talent Council, under contract, since January 2015.

“Our contract with them is in effect until the end of this month, and they have agreed to stay on on a consultant basis with us,” Guilbault said. “If there are any questions, the upcoming finance director, or the current fiscal coordinator, can contact them for advise or guidance.”

Another sign of BHK having overcome its financial trouble is the reinstatement of Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which was suspended almost a year ago, according to Guilbault.

The program is “basically, if there is an employee who has a work-related or non-work related situation where they need additional support, they can receive up to five sessions with a certified counselor,” Guilbault said.
