Project Hope returns to Houghton County

HANCOCK – Project Hope, a comprehensive shelter and family-strengthening program for homeless and runaway youth, has returned to Houghton County, according to a press release from Child & Family Services of Hancock.

Project Hope is currently in need of volunteers to become short-term foster parents, the release stated. The role of the foster parent would be to provide a safe, stable and caring environment during a time of greatest need.

The project offers a wide range of services, including 24-hour, seven-day-a-week crisis intervention, temporary emergency shelter, as well as intensive youth and family strengthening services. The project also provides food, transportation, life-skills training, mediation services, recreation and positive youth development activities, according to the release.

Youth can be referred to Project Hope by anyone, including themselves, by calling or texting the Hope Crisis Line at 906-281-0937.

Funding for the program was made available by a federal grant from the Administration of Children and Families. It is being administered as a extension of Child and Family Services of the Upper Peninsula.

Project Hope provides programs, services, and emergency shelter for homeless, runaway, and youth who are at risk. All services are confidential, voluntary and free of charge.
