Hearing in attempted murder case

HOUGHTON – A Hancock man faces a charge of attempted murder for allegedly shooting someone with a compound bow and arrow in Hancock Saturday.

James Walters Jr., 58, of Hancock, was arrested Saturday after Hancock police responded to a house on Summit Street. Police say he shot a 56-year-old living in the house in the shoulder after an argument over a cell phone.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the incident.

The attempted murder charge is a felony punishable by up to life in prison.

Walters is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on 10 a.m. March 2. Bond is $500,000 cash or surety.
