CCAC seeks Kalevala art

HANCOCK, MI – A call for ART. The Copper Country Community Arts Center in Hancock will host an exhibition of art inspired by the Kalevala in connection with the city of Hancock’s mid winter Heikinpäivä celebration in January 2017. Art from the Kalevala – BOAT LORE.  The Kalevala is a 19th century work of poetry compiled by Elias Lönnrot from Finnish and Karelian oral folklore and mythology. It is regarded as the national epic poem of Finland and is one of the most significant works of Finnish literature.

The CCCAC is seeking artwork relating to water and BOATS as imagery and symbolism. Artists may submit up to three works in any medium. No entry fees. Delivery deadline is 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7. The reception will be during Heikinpäivä from 3 to 4:30 p.m.  on Saturday, Jan. 28.
