Ontonagon debates lighting projects throughout village

ONTONAGON — Village lighting projects were discussed at Monday’s Village Council meeting. The discussion included a quote from Robert C. Shaver Co. for retrofit of LED lights on the Ontonagon River Bridge.

Erickson informed the board that the Department of Public Works crew was able to install the sample LED retro fit into the style of fixture “with minimal effort.”

The council agreed with Erickson to purchase the LED light kit from Shaver for a price of $11,445.

The Lakeshore Lighting project is 95 percent complete, according to Erickson. One fixture remains to be installed, and a switch needs to be relocated on the control panel.

“The change order corrects a clerical error in the contract,” he said.

The order would add the non-grant eligible costs to the contract.

According to Erickson, the change would also include the cost of installing hand holes, “because the poles would not allow installation of the conduit.”

Thus the original contract order of $64,526 would end up being $97,802.

Zane Hyrkas of OHM Advisors was at the meeting to answer any questions.

The council agreed to go with the changes in the contract.

An ad hoc committee studying the village’s website will be meeting to go over changing hosts. This is due to the current Webmaster, Laura Burke, getting out of web design/maintenance.
