BHK Foundation awards six $500 scholarships to area students

HOUGHTON – Six area high school seniors who participated in BHK Child Development early childhood education programs have been awarded educational scholarships through the BHK Foundation. Sienna Anderson (Lake Linden-Hubbell High School), daughter of Beth Anderson of Lake Linden, is planning to attend Northern MI University to pursue a degree in elementary education. Payton Dube (Hancock High School), daughter of Paul and Connie Dube of Hancock, plans to major in business at Northern MI University this fall. Megan Corrigan (Lake Linden-Hubbell High School), daughter of Jodi Wilder and Lawerence Corrigan Jr., is planning to attend Finlandia University to major in nursing. Nathaniel Gransell (L’Anse High School), son of John and Jennifer Gransell of L’Anse, will be pursuing a degree in pre-chiropractic at Northern MI University. Rachel Hall (Houghton High School), daughter of Alyssa Hall of Houghton, will be attending Michigan Tech University in the fall, to study either exercise science or biology. Gracie LaFernier (L’Anse High School), daughter of Troy and Kristy LaFernier of L’Anse, is enrolled at Michigan Tech University and will major in chemical engineering. Each of these outstanding seniors were awarded $500 to help cover expenses related to post-secondary education, with the opportunity to receive $250 for each subsequent year (for a maximum of four years) of enrollment in an institute of higher education.

The BHK Foundation was created in January 2005, to support BHK Child Development Board education services and programs for area families. The scholarship program is made possible through the generous support of individual donors. Scholarships are awarded based on student character, academic achievement, financial need and a demonstrated commitment to the local community.
