Calumet, Michigan native supports nation’s COVID-19 response on American soil

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – U.S. Army Spc. Jessica L. Wilkins, a native of Calumet, Michigan, is serving in Battle Creek as part of the Department of Defense’s response to COVID-19, which is being led by U.S. Northern Command.

As a unit supply specialist with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company 107th Engineer Battalion in Ishpeming, Wilkins now monitors and manages the supply requirements for the units that comprise the headquarters element for U.S. Army North’s Task Force Center. Task Force Center is the division-level headquarters responsible for the command and control of the active duty Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines supporting the COVID-19 response mission through 15 states in the central United States.

“Protecting the American people, preventing the spread of COVID-19, and killing the virus is our main mission,” said Maj. Gen. Michael Stone, Commanding General, Task Force Center. “The Task Force brings the Department of Defense’s highly-trained professionals and experts to support the civilian authorities throughout our regions.”

“I like making sure Soldiers are good to go,” says Wilkins. “Accountability is key.”

Wilkins graduated from basic training in 2017 from Fort Leonard Wood. She is a 2018 graduate of Calumet High School and is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in earth sciences at Northern Michigan University.
