Local scouting invites the public to join them on a hike-in this weekend

MARQUETTE — Lace on those hiking boots, and plan a family hike for the last weekend in May. The Bay-Lakes Council is pleased to invite the general public to join Scouts and Families from across the Upper Peninsula and Northeast Wisconsin for a Hike-In this weekend. Send us your pictures as you defeat Cabin Fever and put the “outing” back in scouting. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.

1. Plan a Day Hike for some time during the weekend of May 29 through May 31. As long as your planned hike is safe, maintains social distancing and is in compliance with Michigan COVID-19 restrictions, your hike can be anything from a weekend wilderness backpack trip, to a hike up Sugarloaf, to a lap around the yard.

2. Email us your favorite picture in each competitive category for our Best Picture Contest. Label the Subject Line with First Name, Unit # (skip if not a Scout), Picture Location, and Picture Category.  Send your pics to scoutingathome@baylakesbsa.org  Picture Categories include: Best picture of Cub Scout(s), Scouts(s), Venturer(s), Best Family Pic, Best Scenery, Best Wildlife, Best Plant Life, Best Action Pic, and Best Service Project Pic.

3. Tune in to our Awards Campfire broadcast at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on Monday, June 1 for an Awards Campfire featuring a slide show of everybody’s hike, red carpet treatment of winning picture announcements, plus a few Scouting songs and skits. This takes place on the Bay-Lakes Council, Boy Scouts of America Facebook page, www.facebook.com/BayLakesCouncil/.

Planning your weekend Hike? Go to www.baylakesbsa.org/scouting-at-home/ to build your 10 Essentials Kit, Learn the Outdoor Code, and find out more details on our Scouting @ Home Hike-In. Those utilizing the website resources need not be registered in the Bay-Lakes Council, or Boy Scouts of America.
