Scholarship applications now available

HOUGHTON — The Rice Memorial Clinic Foundation is pleased to announce that Community Mental Health Careers Scholarship Awards are available again this year. The Foundation established the program in 1992 to promote careers in professions related to Community Mental Health.

A $600 scholarship is available to a graduating senior from each of the 13 high schools in Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, and Ontonagon Counties, the area served by Copper Country Mental Health Services Board. The $600 scholarship may be available to the recipient for each year of their undergraduate education, up to a maximum of $2,400, as long as they remain in an accepted program of study.

Community Mental Health professionals provide a wide range of services to individuals and families in the community who are living with the challenges of mental and developmental disabilities. Careers with significant opportunities in Community Mental Health include: Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, Speech/Language Pathology and Teacher of the Emotionally Impaired.

Graduating seniors who have been accepted into a college program of study leading to a degree in one of the identified disciplines are invited to apply for the scholarship and may do so by contacting their high school guidance counselor for an application package. Applications must be submitted to the school by April 16 by 3 p.m.

In addition, all previous recipients of the award are invited to reapply for continuation scholarship funds. They can also apply for a one time $600 scholarship if they are accepted in a master’s program. If you are a previous recipient of the Rice Memorial Clinic Foundation’s Community Mental Health Careers Scholarship Award and have not yet received a re-application package, please call 482-4880. Applications for previous winners are due by April 16.

The Rice Memorial Clinic Foundation Board will announce scholarship winners in May.
