Houghton Rotary reunion

HOUGHTON — On Thursday, May 20, The Houghton Rotary Club celebrated the newly relaxed COVID-19 restrictions by holding their first indoor meeting since March 2020 at the Bonfire Restaurant in Houghton. The club had been meeting virtually during the preceding 12 months. The Houghton Rotary Club marked their 100th anniversary in 2020, and discussions are now underway to implement a major Community Service Project as their Rotary Centennial Project.

Club President Scott Blake reported that due to changes in the restaurant scene in Houghton, the club is still seeking a new “home”. The lunch meeting was an opportunity for members to survey the recently relocated restaurant, as well as an opportunity to rekindle the flames of friendship and share a meal with other Rotarians.

Rotary was founded by Paul Harris in Chicago, Illinois in 1905. His goal was to create a club so that professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Over time, Rotary’s reach and vision gradually extended to humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world.
