Local exchange student coordinator attends international event

LAS VEGAS – Lauren Scherr, of Baraga, recently attended the 30th Anniversary celebration of International Cultural Exchange Services (ICES), a non-profit that promotes global understanding and peace through high school youth exchange.

As a top performer for the organization, Scherr was flown to Las Vegas where she attended ICES’s national conference which included training seminars and workshops and culminated in a formal gala event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the organization. Other top performers from around the country, as well as partner agents from around the world also attended the event.

For the past four years, Scherr has worked as a Local Coordinator and Field Manager in the western Upper Peninsula, placing exchange students with local host families and providing support during their time in the U.S. She says, “I love working with exchange students because I get to help students and families find a piece of themselves that they never knew was missing.”

Scherr is currently looking for host families for students arriving this fall. Exchange students come with medical insurance and money for personal expenses. Host families provide room and board, and loving parental guidance. For more information, contact lscherr@icesusa.org, call or text 906.231.4852 or visit www.icesusa.org.
