Laurium police ask for help

LAURIUM — Laurium Village Police are asking the public for any information regarding a recent rash of vehicle break-ins throughout the village.

In a release from the police department, Laurium Police Chief Kurt Erkkila said that over the past several days there have been numerous reports of breaking and entering.

“We are unsure of the intention for the break-in,” Erkkila said. “We are assuming it’s to commit larceny. A friendly reminder (is) to make sure your vehicles are locked and valuables have been removed.”

Surveillance video provided by Laurium village resident shows an individual entering a vehicle at 2:59 a.m. Wednesday. Judging by the video, said Erkkila, the suspect appears to be a young male adult and about six feet tall.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Laurium Village Police Department at 906-337-4000.
