Houghton County Fair Auction results

HANCOCK — This year’s Houghton County Fair saw record-breaking attendance, said office manager Carol Saari. 

Exhibit and livestock results were announced in Monday’s edition. Results from the demolition derby, tractor pull, livestock skillathon and livestock auction are below:

Livestock Auction

The total raised was $113,620.75 with 37 youth exhibitors.

Grand Champion Steer raised by Kyla Strom sold for $6.50 per pound to Laser North

Reserve Champion Steer raised by Jewel Laux sold to Breakwater Federal Credit Union for $3.75 per pound.

Grand Champion Lamb – raised by Jesy Hupp, sold to UP Health System Portage for$10 per pound

Reserve Champion Lamb – raised by Aaron Sauvola sold to Massie Manufacturing for $10 per pound

Grand Champion Goat — raised by Ruby Laux, sold to Erickson Feed, Seed and Pet Supply for $12 per pound

Reserve Champion Goat — raised by Jade Hupp, sold to Massie Manufacturing for $10.50 per pound

Grand Champion Hog — raised by Layna Strom, sold to Acciacca Forest Products for $11.50 per pound

Reserve Champion Hog — raised by Rylee Strom, sold to Laser North for $11.50 per pound.

Other youth exhibitors included Ruby and Daisy Zawada; Alexis, Bailey, and Caitlin, Strom; Paris Olson, Asa and Oriana Olson; Nolan and Brayden Cadeau; Savanah Kangas; Roger, Alena, Bruce, Kay, Jana and Alex Pietila; Ava Heider; Connor and Lily Kerr; Soren Niemela; Kate and Kyle Palosaari; Dawson Saari; Henry, Jackson, Nolan, Jordon and Megan Holombo.

Other buyers included: Michigan Tech Dining Services, Northland Lawn and Sport, Pat’s Foods of Hancock, Portage Lake Construction and Peterson Chiropractic, Joan and Ernie Butler, Farm Bureau Insurance of Houghton, LJJ Construction, Rainbow Packing, Alison Pontynen, Senator Ed McBroom and Representative Greg Markkanen, DP Construction, Northland Electric, Copper Country Veterinary Clinic, Acciacca Forest Products, Great Lakes Sound & Vibration, Sticks and Stones Construction.
