Calumet Legion to honor JROTC

Calumet American Legion Post 61 will hold their Annual Veterans Day Dinner on Friday, November 11, at the Calumet National Guard Readiness Center.

The annual dinner honors all veterans for their patriotic service to our country. This year’s program will honor the 105-year history of the Calumet High School JROTC unit, the second oldest unit in the country. As part of the program, the Post is requesting past members of the JROTC unit to submit short letters with memories of their experience in the unit or their thoughts on how participation in the unit affected their adult life. While the stated purpose of the JROTC program is to teach citizenship, many former cadets have gone on to military service. The Post would especially like to hear from veterans who were once members of the program about their experiences, both during and after their high school years.

Letters may be mailed to American Legion Post 61, P.O. Box 661, Laurium, MI 49913 or emailed to David Crowley at davidcrowley36@gmail.com.

Social hour for the dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 and the program to follow. Tickets are $15.00 and can be purchased at Copper World, the L&L Bar and Rocky’s Bar, or by calling 906-337-4045 and leaving a message.

Starting at $3.50/week.
