CTE students win big at SkillsUSA
February 10 was a great day to be a CTE student. The regional SkillsUSA competition was held at Bay College in Escanaba. This includes all of the UP for schools who chose to participate. Out of the 10 students who participated nine of them placed.
In the Auto competition there are two categories to compete in. Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR) and Master Overall. The MLR category has a written test and then students have a timed safety inspection and identification station. The next hands on practical station is another timed vehicle inspection station. Here students have to determine everything that is good as well as fined any discrepancies. The master overall category is several hands on practical stations along with parts identification and includes a written test as well.
One station is an electrical testing and voltage drop station. An engine repair station has measurement and testing. Engine Performance has ignition testing and scan tool use. Steering and suspension has parts identification and you have to verbally describe and answer questions to the station proctor on how to test parts. Brakes has measurement, testing and parts ID. Drive train station has students set up measurement equipment and compare to specifications. Each station is an 8 minutes timed event.
