Six-month investigation nets arrests of Atlantic Mine pair

On Tuesday, following a six-month investigation, detectives from UPSET (Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team) arrested Michael Statler, a 36-year-old male from Atlantic Mine, and Arleen Statler, 36 year-old female from Atlantic Mine, on three counts each for delivery of methamphetamine, a 20-year felony.
UPSET detectives conducted numerous undercover drug purchases from the Statlers over the past six months which led to a traffic stop last Sunday in Delta County by troopers from the Michigan State Police Hometown Security Team on a vehicle driven by Michael Statler.
During a search of the vehicle, troopers recovered methamphetamine and a loaded handgun from Arleen Statler. She was lodged in Delta County Jail for possession of methamphetamine and felony firearm. Her bond was set at $25,000. Michael Statler was arrested for a PPO violation and later transported to Houghton County Jail.
A search warrant was executed last Sunday at a residence on Asumaa Road in Atlantic Mine. During the search, detectives seized methamphetamine, digital scales, cellphones and other drug paraphernalia. Detectives also seized five handguns and 13 long guns during the search.
Michael and Arleen Statler were arraigned in 97th District Court, Houghton County, on Wednesday. Michael’s bond was set at $50,000, and Arleen’s was bond was set at $25,000.
UPSET was assisted by the MSP-Hometown Security Team, Delta County Sheriff K-9, Houghton County Sheriff, MSP-Calumet Post, Michigan DHS and ATF.
