SOUTH RANGE — An auto repair shop on Trimountain Avenue in South Range is believed to be a total loss after a fire Saturday afternoon.

The fire at Fred’s Auto Repair started about 3:20 p.m., said South Range Fire Chief Mike Balma. Nobody was in the building at the time of the fire.

There was no indication yet what caused the fire, but it appears to have started in the back of the building, Balma said.

Other responding fire departments were Adams Township and Hurontown, Balma said. The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office closed off the roadway to traffic during the fire response.

Balma thanked the responding departments and others who pitched in.
