Graham Jaehnig/Daily Mining Gazette Calumet Theatre Executive Director Jay Maki discussed a nearly full events schedule for the 2023 theater schedule at the regular April Board meeting on Monday.

CALUMET -- The Calumet Theatre is looking forward to a full summer season, except for a couple of Summer Concert Series shows on Wednesdays, said Executive Director Jay Maki.

"We've got the rest of our season booked enough that I feel comfortable getting (the bookings) out online," Maki said during his Director's Report during the regular April meeting of the Theatre Board.

Maki said that next Tues (Apr. 18), reserve ticket sales will be made available online to Calumet Theatre members.

Reserve ticket purchase is a perk, he said, for those who are in the $50 and up membership categories.

Maki then discussed the recent volunteer work bee volunteer day which drew 10 volunteers. Together, they worked to organize spaces in the Red Jacket Ballroom, which increased access to the circuit/power box.

The volunteers also rearranged work tables in the kitchen area, which significantly increased work space allowing people to pass in front and behind the tables while serving food.

"It's going to make it a lot more user-friendly for our wedding receptions that we have this summer and stuff like that," he said.

Two more volunteer work bees are scheduled for the month, this Saturday, April 15, and April 29, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Theatre President Dan Jamison said that while Calumet Village owns the theater, the Calumet Theatre Company is a volunteer-based organization and there is a wide range of areas for people to volunteer.

Volunteer opportunities include:

• Archives

• Bulk Mailing

• Cleaning/maintenance

• Poster distribution

•Special events helper

• Stage/technical assistant for performances

•Tour Guide

• Usher/concessions

Jamison added that members are also needed.

"Volunteers are important to operations of the theater," he said, "but at the same time paid memberships drive the theater. Anyone who wants to know the details, how to volunteer or how to become a member can find the information on the theater website."
