Family Fun Fair at Calumet Colosseum

The Houghton/Keweenaw Communities That Care invites the public to join in the fun at the third ever Family Fun Fair, from Noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 20 at the Calumet Colosseum. The event is free to attend.

“In collaboration with May Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re hosting this event to promote wellness, connection, and uplifting the community,” said HKCTC Coordinator Callisto Cortez. “It will be a time where the community can come together for family fun and learn what resources, businesses, and other organizations our home has to offer. There will also be bounce houses, games, activities, face painting, music, food & beverages.”

Cortez said kids of all ages are welcome to attend.

“There will be a fishing game with a magnetic lure,” she said. “Pick up a fish and there will prizes.”

Refreshments will include hotdogs, cotton candy and beverages, but the event is substance-free; no alcohol is permitted at the fair.

“There will be water, lemonade, tea,” said Cortez. “Keweenaw Coffee Works will be there.”

There will also be several local agencies present to provide information, including The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department, Dial Help, Upper Great Lakes Family Health, Keweenaw the Community Alliance for Progressive Education.

“CAPE does a lot with kids,” Cortez said, “just enriching kids’ lives, which is basically the mission of CTC, as well.”

Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds will be present to provide information about its organization and locally available services.

“Have fun, play games, enjoy free food and beverages and also get information on resources from local organizations and agencies in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties,” Cortez said.

This is a substance free event, in collaboration with Mental Health Awareness Month
