KEWEENAW BAY INDIAN COMMUNITY – In partnership with Betty Ford Breast Care Services, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Health Center will be hosting a Mobile Mammography event on Monday, September 18 – Tuesday, September 19, 2023. This is the 4th year that the Betty Ford Breast Care Services have supported Upper Peninsula tribal communities.

No-cost breast cancer screening is available to all women who would like to have their screening completed, and includes women of all races in Baraga, Houghton, and Keweenaw counties, most importantly local tribal community members, tribal employees, and casino employees. Mammograms are completed in just 10 – 15 minutes. Making an appointment will ensure that your screening is done at no cost and at a time convenient for you. Past participants of this screening event in Keweenaw Bay have said, “The appointment was convenient, and I didn’t have to find a ride to the hospital.” and “The staff was very friendly and organized, and made this a comfortable experience.”

If you are a woman age 40 or older, and due or overdue for your annual mammogram, please contact the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Health Center by calling Amanda Wiggins at 906-353-4511 to make your appointment for Monday, September 18, 2023, or Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Transportation is available for those being screened at this event. Please be sure to leave your name and phone number if you are asked to leave a voice message when you call to make your appointment.

Mammograms are available for insured, uninsured, and underinsured women. If you are uninsured, underinsured, or can’t afford your insurance or Medicare Part A deductible call, Emily Ferroni, at 231-268-1307 to enroll in the Michigan Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Navigation Program (BC3NP). The BC3NP program can arrange and pay for program-eligible women to receive breast cancer screenings at this event, follow-up care for an abnormal test result, and treatment should the individual be diagnosed with breast cancer.

On Monday, September 18, and Tuesday, September 19 the mobile unit will be at the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Health Center, 102 N Superior Ave, Baraga, MI 49908.

This women’s health event is a collaborative effort of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, the Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan, and Betty Ford Breast Care Services.

After departing Keweenaw Bay the mobile mammography unit provided by Betty Ford Care Services will be providing mammograms to women in the Hannahville Indian Community, from Wednesday, September 20 – Friday, September 22.
