Trunk-or-Treat is scheduled for Saturday, October 28, from 3-5 p.m. The 100 and 200 blocks of 5th Street will be blocked off to allow people to park their decorated vehicles and hand out candy. Set-up for the event starts at 2 p.m. and we ask that no cars be moving after 2:45 p.m.
“We invite families to come trunk-or-treating on 5th Street from 3-5 p.m.,” said Polzien.
The Calumet Village Council, at its regular October meeting, said that for the event, Fifth Street will be closed from Scott Street to Oak Street from 2-5 p.m. While Scott and Oak streets will remain open to traffic, Portland Street will be closed to cross traffic. Main Street Calumet submitted the request to the Council to ensure that cars are not parked on the street during the event when the street will be full of children.
Trunk-or-Treating is not the only fun-filled event of the afternoon. There will be pumpkin carving on the stage of the Calumet Theatre from 3 to 6 p.m., with around 150 pumpkins available for carving, Polzien said. Families are also welcome to bring their own pumpkin, as well.

The event is free and carving utensils will be provided. Carved pumpkins will be displayed on and around the Calumet Theatre for the 6 p.m. showing of the Theatre’s Halloween special, of A Nightmare Before Christmas, part of the Calumet Theatre’s Movie Magic series.
“We encourage families to pick-up their carved pumpkin after the movie, if they are able,” said Polzien.
“This event usually draws around 350 children and their families to our downtown, Polzien said, “and it is so fun to see all the costumes and excitement it brings to the district. We want our downtown Calumet to be a fun place with engaging activities to welcome residents, and Trunk-or-Treat really fits that bill! I encourage families, businesses and organizations to come out and be a part of the event, it’s not a big time commitment and it’s very entertaining.”
