Everyday is a good day at Mount Bohemia’s Nordic Spa

The components of a traditional Scandinavian spa experience are available at a reasonable rate at Mt. Bohemia’s Nordic Spa, as compared to high end spa clubs or 5 star mountain resorts in Europe. Winter season passes come in at just $70 and daily passes are available for $35.
The cycle is simple: hot, cold, relax, repeat. Hot exposure begins in the outdoor hot tub, hot pool, Eucalyptus steam cabin or the Finnish sauna. Fifteen minutes should do the trick before submerging in the cold pool or Nordic waterfall. Towel off and relax for 10 to 15 minutes before starting all over again.
Before the ski season starts the sauna will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Once the snow sets in the hours will extend to midnight.
Elle Rowe is a Calumet native and class of 2020 Finlandia graduate, who recently joined the team at Mt. Bohemia. She saw the awesome potential of being a part of a world class ski resort and the benefits of the spa culture in the UP.
Growing up Rowe had access to saunas and fondly recalled taking winter dips in the lake to get the hot/cold exposure.
“You hear what it’s like to be a Yooper, a big part of being a Yooper is taking saunas and now you look around, where do I go for that?”
Her intention in working at Mt. Bohemia is to encourage folks to utilize the opportunities available to them.
“There’s room for everyone, and I think this community would benefit tremendously from having this kind of experience.”
Rowe will be handling group sales and Nordic Spa sales, but she has also offered her experience as a mermaid to add to the fun around the pool.
Dates are now open for business or group packages looking to host a relaxing Holiday party. Dates are limited to Thursdays from noon to 4 p.m. or Fridays from 4 to 8 p.m. Options for groups include wood fired pizza, soft drinks, yurt rentals and more.
Lonie Glieberman, President of Mt. Bohemia was eager to showcase what he considers the peak spa season.
“The best time for the Nordic Spa is early winter,” Glieberman said, “because it’s cold out, but there’s not a lot to do…and it’s a great time to be out in a hot tub or a cold pool and watching the snow come down. That’s what makes the Nordic Spa special. July is nice, but November, December is magical.”
Plans to expand the Nordic Spa are ongoing. Glieberman mentioned several additions moving forward that will continue to offer relaxing elements to skiers and the public.
Looking ahead, Mt. Bohemia will host several lantern lit snowshoe hikes on Dec. 9, 15 and New Year’s Eve and are also intending to extend the outings into January and February.
Mount Bohemia is a cashless business. Customers are encouraged to purchase day passes ahead of time.
“Buy your Nordic Spa tickets before you come up. We recommend the season pass it pays for itself in two days,” said Glieberman.
