Fourth of July Committee hosts first Deer Hunter’s Ball

SOUTH RANGE — The South Range 4th of July Committee is hosting its First Annual Deer Hunters Ball, according to Committee Chairman Michael Renier. The ball is scheduled for this Saturday, November 18, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the South Range VFW, located at 2 Baltic Avenue, in South Range.

Slick Nickel will perform a variety of genres for dancing or just listening.

“There will be a cash bar there,” said Renier, “and people can order food at the VFW bar, in the next room.”

The Hunters Ball is one of the committee’s fundraisers for the annual Fourth of July celebration that South Range is legendary for.

To raise money for the annual 4th of July celebration, the committee puts on several events per year, including Valentine’s Day dances, their annual Oktoberfest, and many others.

In a June, 2023 interview Renier said it requires a large amount of money to put on a Fourth of July celebration citing for example that for this past July’s event, fireworks alone cost $11,000.

“The cost of everything has gone up,” he said in June. “Fireworks have increased from 5-10%, most of which was due to transportation costs.”

In addition to fundraising, the committee is always looking for volunteers.

Tickets for the Deer Hunters Ball can be purchased at the door and are just $5.00, Renier said.
