Middle school student removed after threat of school violence

HOUGHTON — A Houghton middle school student was removed from the building Monday following a threat of school violence made to other students. A note sent to Houghton Portage Township Schools from Superintendent Anders Hill addressed the matter.

The comment was reported to middle school principal, Mrs. Filpus.

The student will remain out of school pending disciplinary action and a threat assessment involving parents, school staff and law enforcement, the note said.

In a final statement to the HPTS community, Hill expressed the seriousness of violent rhetoric and the severity of resulting consequences.

Parents were encouraged to relay the message to their students and implore them to report any comments involving violence to an adult.

Starting at $4.00/week.
