2 hospitalized after ‘violent domestic assault’ in Hancock

HANCOCK — Hancock police are investigating a domestic assault complaint that resulted in two people being taken to the hospital early Saturday morning.

About 2:40 p.m. Saturday, Hancock police responded to the 300 block of Hancock Street after Negaunee Regional Dispatch notified them of a 911 call of someone being assaulted.

Responding officers found two people who were transported to UP Health System – Portage.

Hancock Police is continuing its investigation. In a Saturday release, Police Chief Tami Sleeman called it a “violent domestic assault.”

No information on charges or the status of the people taken to the hospital was available Saturday afternoon.

Responding agencies included the Hancock Police Department, Houghton Police Department, Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Michigan Technological University Public Safety, Mercy EMS and the Michigan State Police Forensic Lab from Marquette.
