2 injured in Allouez Township crash

Sheriff’s release

Keweenaw County Sheriff Deputies responded to a single vehicle crash on US41 near the North end of Cliff Drive in Allouez Township Wednesday evening at about 8 p.m. Deputies report a southbound vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control on the gradual corner south of Cliff Drive. The vehicle crossed over the center line and onto the East shoulder, striking a traffic sign and soil embankment before becoming air borne and rolling over several times prior to coming to rest on the shoulder of the roadway.

The driver, a 49 year old man and passenger, a 48 year old female, both of Calumet Township, were transported via Mercy Ambulance via Portage Health Systems for treatment of injuries.

Excessive speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors of the crash, which remains under investigation.

Local passers-by rendered first aid and summoned emergency personnel.

Deputies were also assisted by Allouez Township First Responders and Fire Department, Mercy Ambulance, Calumet Township Fire Department and Superior Service Towing.
