Hearing in Dixon murder case set for April

HOUGHTON — A hearing that had been scheduled for this week in the case of a suspect in a November murder in Houghton has been removed from the calendar.

Evan Dixon, 60, is now scheduled for a review hearing in 97th District Court on April 26.

Dixon allegedly fatally shot Theron Duncan, 53, of Houghton at the Douglass House Saloon on Nov. 17. The motive of the shooting is unknown.

He is charged with first-degree murder-premeditated, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison, and felony firearms, punishable by up to two years in prison.

In January, he was ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation to determine if he is competent to stand trial.

The original judge and defense attorney recused themselves from the case due to their personal and professional relationships with Dixon, a longtime lawyer in the area. He is being represented by Marquette lawyer Karl Numinen. Anna Talaska, a district court judge in Gogebic County, is presiding over the case.
