ALLOUEZ TOWNSHIP — An early Thursday morning structure fire on Sixth Street in Mohawk Location claimed the life of one person, according to Keweenaw County Sheriff Curt Pennala.

At approximately 2 a.m. Thursday, the Allouez Township Volunteer Fire Department was called to the structure fire, Pennala said, with the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office assisting at the scene.

Although few details are known as of Thursday afternoon, Pennala said that the homeowner, a female, was found inside. She was identified as 66-year-old Patricia Hill, Pennala announced Thursday afternoon in an email.

The state fire marshal was called to investigate, and although no foul play is suspected currently, the Michigan State Police had a canine arson dog on the scene, Pennala said.

Several departments and agencies assisted Allouez Township on the scene, he said.
