Baraga village council aims at grant for security cameras
The Village of Baraga Council passed a resolution to apply for a Michigan Township Grant at its monthly meeting Tuesday evening.
The grant is for security cameras and can be utilized for the planned installment of cameras overseeing the marina and children’s playground off the coast of L’Anse Bay. The grant can provide funds up to $5,000 of which the board is hoping to receive the amount in its entirety. Council then approved to install security cameras on the marina for $1,215.
The meeting then continued with a report that the pickleball court will receive fencing in October but will not be painted until May and that the marina has received a larger flag. The fees generated by the marina have produced a healthy level of revenue for the village this year with more of the boating season still to go.
“We’ve had an exceptional year down at the marina, probably the best ever,” Village Manager LeAnn LeClaire said. “We had $19,000 in dock rentals and people are being very honest about their launch fees and fuel income is at $4,400.”
