Sheriff’s office responds to gunshot

Situation resolved in Lake Linden

LAKE LINDEN — The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a man with mental health issues firing a gun inside his house in Lake Linden Saturday morning, the department said in a release.

The sheriff’s office responded shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday to reports of a gunshot from a residence near Front and Ninth streets, the department said Saturday afternoon.

Upon investigating, deputies learned a 34-year-old Lake Linden man was having mental health issues and had fired the gun inside his home.

The situation has been resolved and there is no further danger to the community, the sheriff’s office said.

In a Saturday afternoon post on its Facebook page after everything was clear, Lake Linden-Hubbell High School said they had been advised to keep everyone at school in the building and not let others come to the school until any danger had passed. The school’s home football game against North Dickinson was still set to kick off at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, they said before the game.

The investigation is ongoing and has been turned over to the Lake Linden Police Department.

Assisting at the scene were the Lake Linden Police Department, Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office, Hancock Police Department, Houghton Police Department, Michigan State Police, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Mercy EMS and Bootjack First Responders.
