Beyond the frame

HOUGHTON — Michigan Technological University will be hosting a reception for work from student artists at Rozsa Art Galleries on Friday. “Beyond the Frame” will be taking a look at student art from the Art of Site and Scenic and Entertainment Design classes at Michigan Tech.

Visual and Performing Arts Associate Teaching Professor and Rozsa Art Galleries Director, Terri Jo Frew, will be hosting the event at the Rozsa Art Galleries and will highlight the students’ interactive art installation, which is based on classic children’s books such was “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” “Harold and the Purple Crayon,” “Fancy Nancy,” “I Spy,” and “Chicken Little” among many others.

The reception will start at 5 p.m. on Friday and will run two hours. It will feature the child-friendly, interactive exhibit as well as refreshments.

According to Frew, one of the classes, Art on Site, has been hard at work this semester creating art in unconventional places and ways.

“They’ve been going around to various places, locally and on campus, producing artwork,” she said. “It’s like kind of viewing the gallery space as a non-traditional space and using what better inspiration than children’s books.”

According to the event’s webpage, the exhibit is child friendly and immersive. Frew said the gallery showcase is for everybody and is free of charge.

“Beyond the Frame” will be on display from Friday throught Tuesday. The galleries is open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on the weekdays. It is also open Saturday from 1 – 8 p.m.

Starting at $3.50/week.
