HOUGHTON – The City of Houghton announced the Michigan Arts and Culture Council has awarded $4,000 in Project Support funding to Digital Bloom, the community arts experience held earlier this month. According to a press release from the City of Houghton, this support reinforces the importance of uplifting local artists and musicians, and it helps ensure we continue creating meaningful cultural experiences for the Houghton community.

Houghton’s Community and Business Development Manager Danielle Perkowitz said in the release, “We are deeply grateful that MACC recognized the importance of financially supporting Upper Peninsula artists and musicians. Their investment affirms the value of accessible, free public art experiences in rural communities and highlights the creative talent that thrives in the Keweenaw.”

Perkowitz said Digital Bloom featured a wide range of installations and performances, including:

• Manas Collective: The Listening Field The Listening Field Experience at Digital Bloom Houghton Festival Michigan

• Sol Anzorena: To Hold Worlds To Hold Worlds – Maple Moon

• Molly Wallen: Native Birds of the Upper Peninsula (Pictured)

• Ian Raymond: Stop-motion Project Instagram

• Brookie: Live performance on the pier

“These works transformed natural spaces, indoor venues, and the waterfront trail into immersive environments that invited residents and visitors to explore, imagine, and connect,” Perkowitz said.

Perkowitz added, “MACC plays a vital role in supporting arts and culture across Michigan. Their grants help communities expand access to creative experiences, strengthen local economies, and uplift artists whose work shapes the cultural life of our region. Funding like this makes it possible for small communities to host high‑quality arts programming, support fair artist compensation, and create welcoming spaces for people of all ages. “The City of Houghton extends sincere thanks to MACC for their continued commitment to the Upper Peninsula and for helping make Digital Bloom possible.”
