CALUMET TOWNSHIP -- The Michigan State Police (MSP) Calumet Post responded to an automobile accident after a vehicle crashed into two residential properties in Calumet Township.
According to a State Police press release, shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday, troopers responded to a crash on School Street near Hecla Street. The preliminary investigation indicated a pickup was traveling eastbound on School Street near Hecla Street when the driver experienced a medical emergency.
The vehicle left the road and struck a residence's attached garage on the north side of School Street. The driver then put the vehicle in reverse, traveled across School Street, and struck another residence's attached garage on the south side of the road.
Upon arrival, a trooper and a first responder took the driver out of the vehicle and attempted medical treatment, including CPR. The driver was transported to Aspirus Keweenaw where he was pronounced deceased. The death of the driver, a 50-year-old man from Calumet, is suspected to be from the medial emergency, rather than from injuries sustained in the crash. Nobody in either of the residences or anyone else was injured. The investigation remains ongoing.
