Jeffrey Glaster acepts plea deal

HOUGHTON -- The Houghton County Circuit Courtroom was filled with prospective jurors Monday, there for the trial Jeffry Glaster. However the proceedings ended before they had begun as the jury was dismissed. The 46-year old Houghton County had pleaded not guilty to first-degree criminal sexual misconduct and home invasion for a 2024 incident. However, moments before jury selection was set to begin, Glaster accepted a plea agreement ending the court proceedings
Baraga County Circuit Judge Timothy Brennan who, presided over the court, thanked the more than 40 prospective jurors for taking time out of their day to do their civic duty. The selection was initially delayed 45 minutes and, following the brief recess, Brennan said the defendant Glastner, his attorney George Hyde and Houghton County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Hilary Baker, agreed to a plea deal. "I appreciate your willingness to be here today," he he told the jury pool. "You are a crucial part of the trial process."
Glaster was arrested in Jan. 2024 and his case was delayed for two years, following the not guilty plea and a postponed trial. No additional information about Glaster's case was made available by the County Prosecutor's office at press time.
According to a copy of the plea agreement obtained by The Gazette, Glaster's home invasion charges were dropped, in favor of solely pursuing a guilty plea for the CSC charge. As advised by the sentencing agreement, Glaster is looking at a minimum of ten years in prison. The victim could still give an impact statement at the sentencing.
According to Brennan, Glaster is will be sentenced in the following two months. His $100,000 bond was revoked Monday following the agreement.
