Hancock Street repair continues

HANCOCK -- At Wednesday’s meeting, the Hancock City Council. received an update on the current water and sewer project on Prospect and Elevation streets.
City Manager Mary Babcock said the Market Street re-pavment between South Lincoln Drive and Elevation Street will be completed by the end of next week. "That work is being done as we speak," Babcock said. "Then they'll be going in and doing Grove Street."
Wednesday, the council approved $16,786 in payment to Arena Superior Paving to cover asphalt costs. City council has now approved more than $200,000 to repair Market Street.
Council approved Resolution 26-16 to authorize publication of a notice of intent which will issue capital improvement bonds for the water distribution and storage systems in the city. Babcock said $600,000 could be issued to fix water problems in Hancock. "This is the first step of doing a bond. It will give a 45-day notice to give people time to comment after it gets published," she said.
Babcock said the city hopes to address the growing problem of leaks in Hancock's water system. "We had three water breaks in the last six weeks we've had to repair," she said. "We just want to get control over it because some our pipes are quite old."
The bond request comes as the city is currently working to repair and replace old water and sewer lines on Prospect Street between Ethel and Ash Street. The city approved more than $800,000 for the project on Prospect Street, as well as projects on M-203 and Second Street.
