CALUMET -- Representatives from the Pure Michigan Byway Program, Keweenaw Heartlands, the Keweenaw Outdoor Recreation Coalition and Brockway Mountain Drive will give updates on current projects at the Copper Country Scenic Byway Annual Symposium from 2-4:30 p.m., Tuesday at Keweenaw National Historic Park Headquarters in Calumet.
Those attending the symposium can take part in discussions and meetings involving the attending organizations. The event's press release said attendees expected at the event include anyone who is interested in tourism, local government or tribal representatives, historians, preservation advocates, business owners, those involved in transportation and others.
Western U.P. Planning and Development Region Assistant Regional Planner Michael Stanitis said he encourages people to get involved in the process of preserving the portion of U.S. 41 running from the Portage Lake Lift Bridge all the way up to Copper Harbor at its terminus "Anyone interested in learning more about our National Scenic Byway is welcome to attend," he said. "We're always looking for volunteers to be a part of the committee."
