Arrest made, no injuries following ordeal

CALUMET -- An armed standoff in Calumet Tuesday morning ended with one subject taken into custody with no apparent injuries. Details of the hours-long confrontation between an apparently armed suspect and numerous law enforcement officers are still awaiting a formal press release from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department.
Shortly before 7 a.m today, the Sheriff’s Department issued a press release asking the public to avoid the area of M-203, Pine Street and 11th Street. No other information was released at that time.
Later in the morning, there were reports that an armed standoff which was taking place in a building in Calumet. Reports on the scene indicate the presence of numerous officers from several agencies, drones, K-9 units, armed police officers and SWAT teams.
The area had been cordoned off to traffic while officers surrounded a building.
Shortly after 12:30 p.m. Daily Mining Gazette reporter Graham Jaehnig who had been at the scene throughout the morning the suspect had been taken out alive and apparently unharmed.
